複数の友人からオアフークリスマス島への定期便がなくなったというニュースを聞いていた。
記事を読んでみると、滑走路の劣化が原因とある、、、？？、、、また最後の行にNadi-Christmas Island-Honolulu間の便はクリスマス政府の準チャーター便として２００５年の１０月から運用されている。とあり、どうも胡散臭いなあと思っていた。どう見ても、滑走路云々はいちゃもんである。意味わからん、、、と思っていたところ、ハワイ在住の諜報部員であるfishordieさんからの連絡があった。

80年代からクリスマスに通ってる業界人に訊いたところ、クリスマス島ーホノルルのフライトは最初から結構不安定だったそうで、ここ数年のＡｉｒＰａｃｉｆｉｃのは歴史上最も安定していたらしいです。どうやらキリバス政府が観光収入の為に航空会社に補助金を払って飛ばしてきたらしいんですが、キリバス政府がまたいい加減な政府らしくて、時々補助金の滞納やったりして定期便のキャンセルに繋がったりしてきたとか。今回もそれじゃないかなって知人が言ってました。日本からだと、便利なのはタヒチ経由なんで、多分大丈夫なんじゃないかな？まぁ、いずれにせよ、クリスマス島ーホノルルのフライトが復活するのは時間の問題でしょう。でも今年中は微妙・・・

なるほど、納得、そういうことか。今年亡くなった名ガイド、パラウの弔いや、フラットからのＧＴゲームへの道が完全に閉ざされたわけではなさそうだ。ひと安心、、、って早く社会復帰しろって？いやいや、、、、昨今のニュース見てみてください、、、ぼくの再就職先になるはずの会社ボコボコなくなっていっているでしょ。

SUVA, FIJI —- Air Pacific will cancel flights to Christmas Island until the Kiribati Government says the runway is ready, reports The Fiji TimesAir Pacific will suspend its flights to Christmas Island this week because of a deteriorating runway which the company believes may compromise the safety of its passengers.Air Pacific chief executive officer and managing director John Campbell said the decision was regrettable, particularly when Air Pacific was the only air service to the island.Mr Campbell, in a statement, said Air Pacific operational personnel and specialist runway engineers from New Zealand had inspected the runway before the decision was made.
“Air Pacific will maintain close communication with the Government of Kiribati on progress towards the necessary resurfacing and stands ready to provide support and advice should this be required,” said Mr Campbell. The Nadi-Christmas Island-Honolulu route was operated under a quasi charter arrangement for the Government of Kiribati by Air Pacific since October 2005. |
